Nate couldn't explain what he was thinking, not in words that'd make sense. He'd seen how Mandy was when she was pregnant, and how attached she became so quickly to the life she carried. And he remembered his sister-in-law as well, when she was carrying Nicky, and despite everything going on with her and the Git, that unborn child had still been important.
He looked up at the touch, seeing the clear disappointment in Luag's eyes, and his own closed in response. He let out a soft huff of breath. "I'm sorry, caro. Maybe after we know her better. If it were someone like Mandy, someone we were both close to, it'd be different I think. But you spend a lot of time with her and I--it's not the same for me. She's a family friend, yeah, but she doesn't feel like we're close."
Eyes opened, and he looked at Luag, expression rueful. "We've got Cody for now, too, yeah?" Which wasn't the same as someone who was theirs, he knew, and someone that they'd raised from infancy. But it was still a big deal, and something to get used to.
