There Is Nothing I Do Better Than Revenge (terribly_vane) wrote in afic,
There was a frisson of thrill as she realised her little demonstration had been a success; on a purely primal level she felt empowered that Robbie had noticed even for a heartbeat that she was female though clearly the notion had made him uncomfortable. The grimace that followed his sip had her cocking her head and looking interested. Surely he wasn't actually grimacing at the thought of her right? Her ego was large but not shatterproof.
"They're all very formulaic though Robbie, aren't they? Rules, motions, following orders of cockswains. When do you break free? Do you run? There's no boss in rowing." She wanted her friend to embrace the freedom of simply doing what he wanted to do. "Money spent on appearance is never wasted. It's the first thing people see before you even open your mouth and well, you suit suits. They work on you so that I can't even imagine you in something as mundane as jeans."
Romilda scoffed gently at his boast."I'll play along but I really don't believe you. Ten points for an active imagination Stebbins but Ministry workers aren't ripped. Not even you darling." There was no way that Romilda was going to let her mind wander down the direction of Robbie being right and him being built. That way would only be embarrassing for both of them, though mostly her if she couldn't keep her thoughts to herself.
"Perhaps it wasn't chess. Give me a moment to think about what he said." Her mind was whirring as she tried to recall what he'd said but it didn't show her on her face as she kept the polite smile fixed firmly on her features. "Roger really should learn that to enjoy the evening, his current squeeze ought to eat to keep her strength up. Rumbling stomachs are a mood killer."
Roger's message flashed back to her quickly and she snapped her fingers as her brain caught up with her tongue. "I've got it. I'm to tell you that the girl you talked about over pints and crickets, he has her."
