Emma reached out to touch the dragon's head, grinning as it head-butted her fingertip. The grin faded slowly when he mentioned her last job. "You mean when I was sacked?" She made a face. "Said I wasn't doing proper work on the cold cases I'd been given. Thing is, they weren't using me, either. They were calling in folks left and right for long hours, and they only called me in once, and that was to take care of a wee one, like she was some sort of creature. And they wouldn't hire me on as a proper Hit Wizard, either. I've just no luck with jobs."
She gave him a wary look then. "I've been doing alright here, yeah? I mean, I know I said something to that bloke that pinched my bum last week, but if he's complained, I'll do whatever you need to make it right. Sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my brain and all."
