"Not my quills!" Theodore protested with affected indignation, turning his eyes down at the cat reproachfully. She couldn't have given less of a damn about his concerns, however, and make use of his shins as a back-rub; he smiled at her wistfully. He didn't know why he'd never bothered obtaining an animal, really. Perhaps because some incredibly morbid part of him was convinced that the Ministry might simply take him away one day and there'd be no one to care for it. Perhaps because the idea of being responsible for another creature was contrary to his sense of staunch independence. He'd have to make do with others' pets until he decided to make a commitment of that magnitude.
"I'm not quite that hungry," he demurred, eating a fork full of peas and glancing towards the front of the store at the idea of protests. He didn't imagine there'd be one now, not in the middle of a quidditch match on a lazy Sunday, but his shift in attention bore the weight of his changing feelings towards the Alley. Where once he found it a welcome home -- or at least as welcome as it could be for a pureblood who didn't really belong in the city -- it was quickly becoming dangerous, chaotic, and stifled. Perhaps he ought to move again. But the chances of finding someone who would house him seemed slim. Ah well.
"You'll find a very suitable husband, I'm sure." Theodore's conservatism was showing. He had no idea what her intimate pursuits were, and he wouldn't have wished to -- though he would never have commented on them, he couldn't help but contrast things against the harsh standards to which he held himself. Sex before marriage didn't appeal to his sense of morals. Not getting married? Equally bizarre. It never occurred to him that people didn't mind that sort of thing.
Freezing, mid-thought and fork halfway to his mouth, he stared at the wireless, as if it might somehow give him a window to the pitch. "So soon?" He murmured, glancing at his watch. Hm. He'd been here longer than he realised. But still, that was fast for a quidditch match.
