What: Dinner
When: 7ish, Tuesday evening
Where: Steve's house/ranch/cottage thing
Rating: Probably max PG-13
Cooking had always been something Steve enjoyed. It went hand in hand with hunting, and it was something he could do with both his mother and father. His style had turned into a mixture of theirs, his father preferred his meals full of juicy meat, where his mother preferred spices and stews. Vegetables were hit and miss; if Steve was preparing a stew or pasta, he generally threw in a decent amount of them. If he was preparing any sort of steak, he generally only remembered to serve potatoes and peppers. Salad was virtually non-existent in his life.
Tonight, cooking was proving to be stressful. He had no idea what Rose liked, or how she liked things. He'd gone into the night thinking he'd cook venison steaks, but decided otherwise last minute. Suppose Rose never had eaten deer before? Suppose she didn't like it? Steve would ignore the meat in his freezer tonight, and instead cook something a little less abrasive. Chicken; everyone liked chicken, right? Cow steak was too difficult as well, there were far too many different ways of enjoying steak.
On the table when Rose would arrive was chicken (in a barbecue marinade), grilled vegetables, and roasted potatoes. There was also a fine white wine. Not that Steve would know it was a fine wine, it was just one of the many bottles his mother had insisted he keep. He remembered Rose had drank wine at the bar, and was satisfied with his choice. Everything else though... well, it could be a miss.
No salad accompanied the meal.
