Mssr. Corner, I am unsure the details of your friendship, and therefore uncertain of the information the pair of you share. Regardless if you already know or not, Stephen has spent the weekend with his father and I. Clearly that is not the context of this letter, but I felt as though you deserved to know that as a preface. As you can imagine, the details of Stephen's branding took a lot of coaxing. He was hesitant to admit the true details surrounding it. His father and I truly had no idea how severe the situation with One Shot was becoming. As we both don't frequent those odd books you children do these days, we had no real way of knowing. The Daily Prophet has always been quite exclusive in what is written, after all. This letter is not an excuse, though. I admit both my and Rory's shortcomings. We should have been more attentive and aware. I must begin here with an apology, Mssr. Corner. It is no secret I have disapproved of your friendship with our Stephen from the beginning. However, it has become quite clear that your involvement with Stephen has not only protected him from danger, it has saved his life. For that, Mssr. Corner, Rory and I will never be able to repay you. Your actions, should Stephen be entirely truthful (and I see no reason for him to not have been) are nothing short of heroic. Neither Rory or I have the authority to celebrate such actions. As such, the most I can do is provide you with a standing invitation to both Sunday dinners, and any holiday dinner that may fall on another evening. Do feel welcome in our home, even if Stephen is absent. If you find yourself with an empty stomach on any other evening, I politely request an owl beforehand. Generally it will not be an issue to host you, but a bit of warning is necessary. Do not be a stranger, Mssr. Corner. Sincerely, Mrs L. Cornfoot. |
