The woods were quiet. Aurora Sinistra enjoyed being out in the forest even if it was a very cold day. Her companion made the day enjoyable.

Severus Snape paused next to a large holly tree. He pulled out his wand and harvested a few branches. These were deposited in the gathering basket she was carrying.

“How much more do we need?”

“Is it getting too heavy?”

“Severus, I mastered levitating charms my first year at this fine institution.”

“I apologize to Milady for any offense given.”

“Accepted.”

“There is a nice growth of ivy over this way.”

She watched the swirl of his robes and cloak. The man was so graceful when he moved. It made up for his less than stellar looks. Not for the first time, Aurora wondered if Severus had taken dance lessons in his youth. Many of the old pureblood families hired private tutors for such things.

“Do I need to harvest this plant?”

“Not necessarily. Why do you ask?”

“Well, the Holly is obviously a masculine symbol. I do wonder though, are you warrior, hunter or guardian? I know you are far too young to be guide.”

“As you are too young to be crone. I doubt you fit the role of maiden any longer.”

Aurora playfully slapped his shoulder. “A gentleman would not mention such things.”

“Even if he is the lady’s lawful husband?” Severus pointed up just before he swooped in for a kiss.

Aurora had just enough time to register she was standing under mistletoe. Her husband sometimes surprised her by showing his romantic side. She leaned into the kiss.

“I may not be maiden, however, I am yours.”
