"I wouldn't dream of losing them, Captain. You're in charge." Vedette smiled wider now, she wouldn't even consider trying to order his men around, or him. It wasn't her place. If she wanted a command of men she'd ask Ithunvel for one, but she didn't like to lead. She preferred to lone trail, that which brought her outside of this borders more often than not and left her to her own devices. Their tracks would be lost in the snow if they didn't hurry. Their tracks would be lost, but she could still follow the smell. Still. No need to say silly things like that.
If Ulbarich wanted her to lead she was going to have to argue him out of it, or at least put up with it until they ran into someone of higher rank than the both of them. She fixed her bow and started forward a pace before looking at him again. She wondered how he'd managed to keep nearly all of his men out here. These bandits were tricky. It was something, of course. She would tell Ithunvel about it when she returned. Or perhaps, she'd drag Ulbarich back with her. She supposed he'd like a medal more than she would.
She really hated medals. And ceremonies. That's why she preferred the secret services. The long missions to nowhere. Those kills that had to be done in secret. It was too bad that she had to run into all of these men, but at the same time. Perhaps she could use the help. Just this once. If they slowed her down then she could lose them in the woods just as easily as she found them, couldn't she?
