Vedette watched him, leaning both her elbows on the table beside each other and laid her head into her open palms. He was different from any other dragon she'd ever met. More handsome than any she'd ever seen. And a kindness seemed to pour out of him. But with every minute that passed on by she was drawn in. Curious, about this song dragon. Curious about Koe's life, he was older than her. But how much was only a guess she could make. She would never ask. It just made her more curious.. to not know. She watched him eagerly and wondered which he'd choose.
On rethinking. The Elf one was far too obvious. Though she could not read Elven.. Elves were more prickly than she'd said. The Gypsy one seemed, to her, a bit more real. She could have elaborated. Parts of it were truth, of course. But it was the last one. Yes, obvious to her, but maybe not to him. That she could find some measure of attachment for a human. But then she hardly saw dragons. But now she could see one quite clearly. But which would he choose.
Finally the silence was broken by his words. Her smile filled her face and she nodded eagerly.
"You're right. But I have to tell you all of the stories had some truth in them." She pressed her hands back down onto the table and lifted her head back up, sitting forward so she could lean on the table. Her cheeks were beginning to show the wine in them. "I cannot read elven, though I do know how to speak it. Some gypsies did argue over who would marry me but the daring escape went more.. well less complicated and more claiming I was already wed." She grinned.
But then she lowered her chin a moment. "But Tobias was very real, and very.. young. He was one of the first humans I got to know, and so I remember him quite clearly." She paused and took the goblet back from him, and lifted it. "Well now I won't have to punish you for being wrong." Her smile returned, trying to be as light as they should have been. The thoughts of that strange human warrior who had been so.. brave but.. Mortal. Mortal. She always had to remind herself that. Koe was not mortal, she was not mortal. They were long lived creatures.
"Pity really." She bit her lip and looked into her goblet as if it were interesting. It wasn't nearly as interesting as he was.
