Vedette winced considerably as the old man yelled at the both of them. Or maybe it was just to be heard, either way, a disturbing bit of news. What were they afraid of? She'd never run into a town that barred it's inn and it's inhabitants were no where to be found. Especially not one standing. Vedette cast a glance at Koe, then turned her eyes back on the old knight. What was there to say to someone like that.. to convince him. Should she lie to him? Fake some kind of.. fright, or, illness.
It wasn't as if she looked dangerous, or that Koe did. But she didn't enjoy lying very much either, even thought after years of hiding what she was had become a second nature now. Each lie more intricate, each more believable as well. There were far too many times where people wondered why she didn't have a heavy jacket on when it was winter, or why she hated to be out in the sun on a hot summer day.
She deflated a little in posture, the happiness that had been on her face from seeing a person melted away. She looked sad. And worn.
"We are tired from the road Sir Knight! Surely there must be somewhere we could sleep. If not in an inn then a stable would do. I do not think I could walk or ride any father without succumbing to exhaustion. I apologize for our unannounced arrival!" She indicated Koe. "Just a bard, and his assistant. Please sir, do not turn us out. The next town is not for a very long time and another night in the cold would surely kill me." She shivered for effect.
If he would not have them, then she would certainly be sleeping as near to the town as she could.
"Please. We have our own food, we need nothing but a place to stay."
