When she grabbed his arm he spun in response. Something was at her throat immediately and his eyes were wide with fury.
"Watch the guff, Captain!"
He held the thing to her neck. It was cold but strangely blunt. He pulled it away and tapped her on the nose. Orange.
A carrot. He crunched into it loudly. It was still half frozen, and he labored to look as though he knew that going in. Truth be told it tasted awful but he was hungry, and stuffing it right back into his pocket wouldn't have been good punctuation.
"I was doing much worse than that. She'd forbade me to see you. Why do you think I've been everywhere but around?"
"I thought it had something to do with watching me vomit over hill and dale, and demand that you marry me. It seems I was wrong."
