As the dulcet tones of Lady Cithia's voice washed over him Eragos followed the Lady Vera's path to the next stall. There was little enough space, and most of his attention was on the young woman as she tried to negotiate a better price for clothing that wouldn't matter in a week's time. No matter what they did they were too memorable for this place, for these people, but he still kept his attention focused where it should be. If she'd been trying to teach the Lady Cithia a lesson it hadn't gone as well as it could have, as it should have. That Eragos disagreed with her on that point meant nothing. It was an introduction to a different world for a girl who was still foolish enough to think this was some grand adventure. He could only hope she'd be disabused of the notion before too long.
"I hope I didn't make you angry," Eragos told her in a low voice. "I was afraid he'd refuse to sell to us at all."
It seemed like a paltry defense - especially when he knew what she'd been trying to do. No fool, Eragos Feareborne, but he did know when to offer an apology. Even if it was not an apology he felt he particularly owed, it was an apology that she deserved.
For the moment he was content to let it rest at that.
