Onainat sat up on her bedroll, looping her arms about her legs and resting her head on her knees. He was avoiding her on purpose and thinking he could get away with it. Little did he know, Onainat had practiced the art of conversation on many difficult foes. She liked to think of herself as a master at getting people to speak with her. The road was hard enough as it was. Why travel alone when lucky enough to have company?
He drew the ocarina and Onainat blew out a sigh, knocking away the strand of hair that'd fallen in her eyes. So he thought to earn his place in her hall of elusive verbal exchanges, did he? Onainat would not give him such an easy victory. She just had to think of something to talk about. Something she could link back to all that happened, to show him that it would be alright and they would figure everything out.
She didn't want to depress him too much. Or bore him. Or get him angry at her...so any of her more risky and/or less-than-reputable antics would be out of the storytelling cycle. Onainat wiggled her toes under the blanket. Shocking him would be good. Not in a way involving lightning, of course, because he wouldn't appreciate that. If she found something interesting to share, maybe he'd share back. Then they'd be sharing and talking, which would mean they would be involved in conversation.
And she would have won yet another round, keeping her hall of elusive verbal exchanges relatively small!
She thought on this for a few moments, weighing her options and picking at various parts of her own history for things that might work. Weaving a story came more naturally to him than to her. She could very well see the entire thing crash and burn in a pile of awkward wreckage. Onainat chewed on her lips for a few moments before she sat up straight.
"Did I ever tell you how I learned to fly in storms?" Onainat asked. He was inspecting his instrument again. She could tell he was listening though. At least she hoped he was. Throwing pebbles at her father wasn't a nice thing to have to resort to. "I don't think I did. We don't talk very much about the first time I went away from you."
