"Yes, there's a doctor. He's a citizen, saved from the bombings. His name's Francis." They did have medics of their own, usually, but the medics had been killed the blast, probably specifically on purpose, so as to ensure the death of the others. Only the fact that Francis had been there and Tom was quick enough to save him, had most of the wounded not perished.
He bit his lip when she asked for details. He knew it was forbidden in a If I Told You I'd Have To Kill You sort of way, but he was taking her back to base and she'd find out soon enough anyway. Well, at least the major parts of it. So instead of refusing outright, he said, "I'll explain it when we get to Atlanta. No, I'm not a normal soldier. I'm... special ops. Black ops. You Don't Exist ops. Me, I'm like... you know, Mr. Invisible man, but you'd never..." You'd never know the things I've done. "My cover was aiding the citizens in Atlanta, but we were actually on mission when the bombs hit. We have something they want, and the Russians know that what they want, is in my hands. That's all I can tell you for now. More than I should've told you, even."
He had to swallow down the reflex to put it all down as a joke, or cover up the forbidden information *some*how... this could cost him his career, letting her know certain things. "As for you and the baby, you'll be fine. I promised, okay? I won't let anything happen to you, and if my superiors don't like it, they can shove it." Normally, he didn't say things like that, but he was stressed and still a little high on adrenaline. "I have more power than you might think. Trust me. You'll be okay."
