Sonya did not think it was gas. Typical of Tom be away when something like THIS was going down.
Oh God, oh God, oh god!! "Okay, okay, easy, that's it, let's get you t-to Francis," WAAAAAAAAH! "Deep breaths, it'll be fine... crap, we need Tom, oh man, so out of my league!" Sonya wished she'd had children, because at least now she'd know what to do. "Okay, don't panic, we're almost there..."
At the top of her lungs, she shouted, "FRANCIS!!! GET YOUR SKINNY LITTLE WHITE ASS DOWN HERE NOW!!"
And then, back to gentle, "Okay, girl, we can do this..." She demonstrated breathing, as if this was helpful. "It'll be fine--"
"S-Sonya? What's with the--is she in labor?"
"Shut up and help her! She's not full term, this isn't good! What do we do? C'mon, man, help us here!"
Francis took over and carted Brook to a bed. He forced her to lay down and called for assistance from the others--he'd been training some of the other citizens in helping with the wounded, and right now, he really needed all the hands he could get.
Sonya stared with wide eyes. "I-I-I should... sh-should get Tom..."
"Breathe, Sonya." He glanced at the pregnant woman, and spoke calmly. "What's your name, young lady? Try to relax, we'll fix this... Sonya! Don't just stand there! Get the epinephrine! Now!"
"Her-her name's Brook--the what?"
Francis pointed to the little vial of drugs collected from the city as he fumbled for a needle. "The damn adrenaline! Wake up, woman!"
"R-right, adrenaline... oh God, we're Tom?"
Sonya fumbled for the right vial and handed it to Francis. He plunged the needle into the vial and retrieved a massive dosage. "Brook, I need to you breath deeply, okay? Try to relax. I know how ridiculous that sounds, but please try." Francis plunged the needle directly into her distended belly.
"Sonya, bring the drugs here. That should stop the labor for now, but you're going to be bedridden until you comes to term, Brook. We can't risk it." Sonya gave him the rest of the vials, and he selected what he needed. "Okay, painkillers, a sedative..." He injected various other drugs, and patted Brook carefully after he was done.
"I'm going to check your baby now, okay? Sonya, bring the ultrasound over." As Sonya did as she was told for once, Francis sighed. "The baby should be fine, but it's much too early to allow it to go to full labor. You're going to have to stay in bed for the next month, dear."
He readied the equipment, and spread the lotion over her belly. "Flick on the monitor, would you Sonya?"
As she did as she was told, she watched Francis set the ultrasound into Brook's belly. "Would you like see your little troublemaker now? I'm going to check to see if everything's alright in there."
A blue image came on screen and a tiny body appeared. Sonya stared in wonder, and then she snapped out of it. She ordered the nearest man to, "Get Brook's lousy deadbeat husband, boyfriend, whatever the hell he is and drag him to the medic lab, pronto!"
Then she sighed wearily. "Brook? Are you alright?" This was way over her head.
