Characters: All students (plus NPCs, if needed).
Setting: The dragons' enclosure, from midday onwards.
Summary: The First Task.
Status: IC/OOC reactions.
After a rather hurried lunch, the students (and the many visitors coming from Hogsmeade) headed to the area on the edge of the Forbidden Forest where the dragons were being kept. While the four champions were escorted by their heads of houses (Harry and Cedric) or headmaster/mistress (Fleur and Krum) to a tent placed strategically to hide the enclosure from view and received their instructions, everybody else advanced further on, towards a massive enclosure fenced with thick planks of wood. Outside this enclosure, stands were magicked for the audience; on the other extreme side, a massive cage held four dragons, which were being tended by around thirty wizards. The task, as the audience was soon informed, consisted on stealing a golden egg from one of those dragons.
Once Ludo Bagman joined the stands, were he was to assume the role of commentator, the First Task began.
The first champion coming out of the tent was Cedric Diggory, who was assigned to face a Swedish Short-Snout. He tried to distract the dragon by transfiguring a rock on the ground into a Labrador, but halfway through the Short-Snout changed her mind and decided to go for him instead. He managed to get the egg, but got burned in the process.
The second champion was Fleur Delacour, facing a Welsh Green. She managed to put her dragon in a trance, but the dragon snorted and set her skirt on fire. Thankfully, though, she was able to put it out quickly and get hold of her egg.
The third champion was Viktor Krum, facing a Chinese Fireball. He hit his dragon with a Conjunctivitis Curse, which led to the beast trampling around in agony and squashing half of the real eggs, causing the jury to dock out points - although Karkaroff still gave him ten points.
And finally, Harry Potter faced a Hungarian Horntail. To everybody's surprise (and, at first the amusement and derision of some), he used a Summoning Charm in order to get hold of his broomstick, and flew towards the egg, dodging the Horntail's fire and spiky tail. In the end, he was the quickest to get his egg.
The final score was as follows:
First place: a tie between Harry Potter and Viktor Krum
Second place: Cedric Diggory
Third place: Fleur Delacour
