She decided to ignore the slight tension in her father (and the resulting tension in her husband). It was long past time for this to end: she and Cad had been together eight years, together publicly for six, and married for four; they were having a baby in five months; she would be thirty years old in three days. She knew that the circumstances of their romance had earned a lot of distrust towards Cad from her family members, but surely they'd proved themselves by now.
"Hello, Terence," Cad said, holding out his hand. "The place looks topnotch as always."
