Re: Abby & Her Baby Brothers
Laurie wasn't moping, he was just being contemplative. Mostly he was contemplating how in the last week his plan to woo Celeste had gone terribly off-track.
At first, it hadn't. The gala had been spectacular, Celeste breathtakingly beautiful and a wonderful dance partner. When they had kissed, everything had felt right with the world. But the next time he'd seen her that same night she had treated him as Laurence Higgs CFO, not Laurie. It had been the same ever since; Celeste was coolly polite and he couldn't understand what he had done wrong. Had the kiss been unwanted? It had't seemed that way at the time. If he had been misreading the last few weeks, why couldn't she have said so? Most perplexing.
"He's brooding," Ben piped up as Laurie took a deep drink of champagne. "I'm just drinking through my hangover." He frowned. "Or I might still be drunk from yesterday. Who can tell?"
