Celeste was a bit stricken by the turn in the conversation. She hated for anyone to be unhappy, and she most certainly did not want Mr Higgs to be doubting himself in anyway. Especially not over something as silly as the suggestion of mistletoe. She was already quite sure that he was one of the loveliest people she'd ever met.
"I'm certain you wouldn't," she said softly, reaching out to place a gentle had on his arm. "Commit a faux pas, I mean. I don't know you very well, of course, but I'm not sure you're capable of it."
Pulling her hand back into her lap, she summoned a more breezy tone. "However, I'm very happy to have you to do the budgets. I'm hopeless with numbers, I'm afraid."
"Yes," said Narcissa, almost wryly. "Your strengths compliment each other very nicely. It will be an excellent partnership, I suspect. For the foundation."
