Eddie had rarely been so glad to see the London Portkey Authority as when he arrived there after his first and hopefully last trip out to the new Siberian branch of Rosier Enterprises. Three days freezing his arse off while dealing with Russian oligarchs. There were only so many hearty Russian hugs and hearty Russian laughs he could take from perfect strangers – at least when those perfect strangers were middle aged men with the gleam of avarice in their eyes. The hangover he’d suffered through on the second day after the sons of said oligarchs took him on a tour of the all the bars of note in Tomsk (meaning all of them that they could find) the night before had only put paid to any chance of him developing warm and fuzzy feelings for the city. Siberia could keep its weather and its vodka for all he was concerned.
Stripping off his heavy coat, he shook the last bits of snow from the wool as he headed toward the door. He wasn’t quite sure how many time zones he’d crossed via Portkey but it had been morning there and it was definitely still night here. He wandered through the empty hallways until he was finally able to apparate the last distance home. Yawning widely, he stopped in the living room long enough to drop his coat and strip off several more layers of clothing. No wonder the Russian population was dropping if it took this much effort to get down to tee shirt and boxers. It was a wonder if they ever got laid other than on that one day a year with sunshine and heat.
When he stumbled into the bedroom, he wasn’t really surprised to find a tumble of brown hair on his pillow but he was deeply pleased by the sight. Lifting the covers, he slipped carefully between the sheets. Eddie curled up around Daisy with a contented sigh. Even if the new office had been on a tropical island staffed entirely by beautiful women, he still would not have been happy there. Not when his Sunshine was hundreds of miles away.
Daisy made a sleepy, questioning sound as his arms settled around her.
“Go back to sleep, love,” he murmured into her hair. “I’m home.”
