Daisy watched Eddie until he disappeared out the door of the hall because she couldn't quite tear her eyes away from him. Shaking her head firmly in hopes of reasserting power over her brain, she took a deep breath and turned back to the girls.
"So, what's everyone's favorite treat today?" she asked, reaching for a pastry of her own as she suddenly realized she hadn't eaten yet that day. "What's better, the pastries or the cupcakes?"
She could only hope that she could distract them enough in the last few minutes that the very first thing they told their parents about the meeting wouldn't be that a boy had kissed Miss Daisy. It was likely a futile hope, yes, but it was the only one she had.
