RP: Roman/Sabrina
Who: Roman/Sabrina
When: February 15th
Where: Walking around the town
What: They see what's here

The day before had been Valentine's Day, something not celebrated here on Okeano, but that didn't mean that they couldn't have a nice dinner together, like a real date for real people who didn't travel on a bus that moved through time and realities. In fact, they didn't even know what year it was since they used a different calendar. Not surprising when they weren't worried about the sun. So he and Sabrina had gone to a nice restaurant, then dessert in some famous cafe and then they went to their room.

Today, they got up late and had breakfast and then they had nothing to do, so they decided to take a walk through the town and learn what was there. After all, Necrohelm had been so interesting, because they had taken the time to get to know the locals. If they were going to impact this world, they had to know it first.

He held her hand as they walked through the long walkway lined by stores. If it weren't for the bioluminescent lights and the furniture made of corals and other marine material, this could have been an indoor mall. "Do you think they have any magical stores? They have mermaids. I mean I know that they aren't considered magical here. They just are."

When it came to Valentine's Day, there were no expectations towards celebrating it in the traditional style witches' did, especially since Sabrina was dead certain there was no way she could convince anyone else other than Roman to indulge in the festivities of Lupercalia. Having a lovely dinner date and then dessert was more than enough for her, especially when she wasn't even sure Roman would want to do anything at all.

Being in a new area was always exciting in its' own way, even more so when it seemed by all accounts to not be plagued by war or nuclear fallout. It stood to reason that whatever they would end up having to do here would involve the denizens of the world, so she had no problem with exploring.

She laced her fingers with his as she looked around. The whole atmosphere was like something out of a movie, and it made her want to see even more. "I'm not sure, I'd like to think so but I'm not sure what mermaids consider magic. Maybe we should ask. Or, better yet, see what we can find out for ourselves."

"Let's go with that option. We don't want to scare them. Or they burn us to the stake because magic is forbidden like in Ariel's world." Roman didn't think they'd succeed, but there were a lot of people here, and it was just a few of them. Still, he likes the odds, even if he didn't want to destroy an entire world in the process.

"And we start training tomorrow. I wonder what people will think when they see us change into merfolks." Maybe they would have no choice but to talk about magic. "Maybe we should say that we're just people who change in the water? Both merfolks and human or whatever they call themselves here. Maybe that can be a good way to help them get together."

He looked around, trying to see the different stores. "It is very familiar, isn't it? I mean sure the products are different because there are no mammals or wood on this planet, but you have your food stores, your tea stores, you book stores. It's amazing how different civilizations can be, but also how they always end up concentrating on the same things. Look, that looks like some musical instrument place." At least from the sounds coming from the inside.

"That option sounds good. Although, why would they try and burn you at the stake? I'm the one who would be using magic." Sabrina saw no reason for him to suffer if she did something stupid, especially when she would have brought it on herself. Not that she wanted to test the theory that she would come back, but still.

"I'm looking forward to training. I feel terrible about you always being stuck on 'protect Sabrina' duty." If she could handle herself better in combat, then Roman would be able to get involved more. "That makes me wonder how it all works for them. Like, is there some sort of magic component? Or were they born as merfolk and the like? And are there major differences between the types?" It stood to reason in her mind that the various types of undersea people or things had segregated themselves for a reason.

She was still quietly marveling at the furniture, finding it a little funny that the coral couches were perfectly comfortable despite looking like they wouldn't be. "I've always liked checking out food stores in different places. I feel like you can tell a lot about the lifestyles and people by checking out their food. Also, I'd love to see what hind of books they have. Oooh, musical instruments? I've always wanted to learn how to play something...."

"Because you know all of us would protect you, we'd have a huge fight, kicking ass and being absolutely amazing, but even we can't take an entire town," he said with a chuckle. "Maybe it's just easier to walk around and see if we find a shop that sells magical stuff."

Roman looked at her with a frown. "Are you serious? Do you really think that it's what's happening? Sabrina, I'm pretty sure that we all think that you are one of the best fighter, even if you use magic instead of your fist. The reason I'm there is as back up, because you were the most invaluable member." Admittedly, he hadn't given too much thought about the merfolks. "Ariel was born, so maybe that's the same here. We should use the potion to go to their city."

He nodded. "That's true. I was talking to Abigail, and we thought about creating 'trips' on the holodeck, so we can see all the different stores around the world, and she's going to teach us cooking." Roman pulled her hand. "Come on, let's go see what's there."

"You all shouldn't need to protect me, not if it would jeopardize the mission, because it's not fair for everyone to get blamed for my stupidity," she huffed with a soft sigh. "We could do that, and check out any other shops that catch our fancy."

Sabrina met his gaze with a steady one of her own. "I am serious. I know that when I use really powerful spells, it can leave me somewhat defenseless. Roman, you shouldn't have to be there as back up, I should be able to find a way to use my magic more efficiently, so that I can do something big and still keep going. You're a force to be reckoned with in your own right, between your speed and strength. I just feel like being back up for me is a waste of your skills." Surprised that he knew so much about Ariel, she nodded. "I wonder if they'll have an easier time accepting Ariel than they will the rest of us. We should, I'd like that."

She smiled. "Oh really? I don't think I've ever officially met Abigail, I really should introduce myself to her, since she seems like a real sweetheart. I know how to cook a few things, but it's mostly junk food and sweets." Sabrina laughed when he pulled her hand. "Alright, I'm coming, jeez."

"Bullshit. This isn't about protecting you because of what you do, but because of who you are. You're a witch. I'm a Upir. Either thing could get us killed, depending on the culture. If there's one thing that this group does is standing up for injustices." He didn't like the way she downplayed the risk to herself. "Then, that's what we'll do."

He raised both his eyebrows. "And you think I'm kidding? In a perfect world, Skynet wouldn't have taken over the world. In a perfect world, you shouldn't have to cast an insane spell that protects us all. Each person had a role and they were all important, because they all had to work for the plan to succeed. Besides, I was probably the weakest link in that world. I'm great against humanity, not so great against machines that need to be shot. It was the best use of everyone's skill and you shouldn't have to do all of it by yourself." Roman thought for a moment. "If we go down after taking the potion, they won't know that we aren't merpeople unless we tell them, right? Maybe we can tell them after we figure out how they feel about magic."

Thinking about Abigail, he had a sad smile on his face. "That would be good. She had a fucked up father, one who killed people and put them in their meals without telling her. Really, really fucked up, so now she likes to cook so people don't mess with her food. She really needs friends. It's pretty obvious that this is the first time she had a normal life and we're on a fucking bus that goes through dimensions. How fucked up is that?"

"...is it terrible to admit that I'm not used to people actually wanting to protect me as opposed to feeling obligated to do it? Growing up, my auntie Zelda had a very strict 'you brought this on yourself so deal with it yourself' mentality, and she was an absolute bitch to anyone who tried to help me." Of course, Zelda thought she was selfish for wanting to change certain things about witchly tradition. "I really hope we find a book store. That's one thing I wish I bought while we were in Necrohelm."

She didn't want to argue with him. "Maybe that's my issue. I spent so long having to hide my magic and that part of who I was, that I have a hard time believing that I shouldn't have to do it all by myself. A lot of the shitty situations that happened back in Greendale weren't technically my fault, but because of who I'm related to, I got blamed for it anyway." Which invariably meant that she was the one who would end up having to fix things, often at her own peril. Sabrina wrinkled her nose. "The potion lasts longer than the gillyweed anyway, so I'd feel more comfortable using that anyway."

It was beyond obvious that he thought highly of Abigail, which made Sabrina more interested in getting to know her. "I'm not sure if you know this, but I have some experience dealing with fucked up fathers. Mine didn't go full Sweeney Todd, but he did have an unhealthy interest in my personal life and a love of micromanaging everything. I can understand that reasoning, I used to only eat food from other witches if I knew it was made by my auntie Hilda, since otherwise I had no way of knowing what was put in there or what the food was capable of. It's pretty fucked up, but I can related. I mean, this is kind of the first time I had a normal life too, if we're defining that as being to be fully and entirely ourselves without hiding shit or holding back."

Roman shook his head. "I understand that. My mother would protect me and I know she loved me, but I was well aware that she was protecting because I was hers, almost like a puppet. Your aunt sounds like a bitch, although she never brainwashed you, so whatever-." He nodded. "A book might be nice, also postcards. I've been trying to collect them, but I didn't get any from the last world."

Roman kissed her temple. "We are all used to hiding. Or most of us. It's not like werewolves and Upirs were a thing in my world. I understand having to come up with lies to covered up things that can't be explained. My sister is on the run, because she's been blamed for murders committed by a crazy werewolf. I get all of that Sabrina, but shit was always worse when we did it alone. Working together save our asses a few times. It's something that Peter never got. Don't make the same mistakes." It seems that the potion would be their first choice.

He laughed. "Only on this bus, we can say the shit we say and people go 'oh yeah, just like my parents'. Maybe that's part of the way it picks us. We're all so fucked up that we can only get better."

Sabrina felt oddly comforted. "Yeah, I knew my auntie Zelda loves me in her own way, but I also knew that Zelda was super concerned about her standing in the Church of Night. And I fucking hated so many things about the Church, especially Father Blackwood - who straight up married Zelda and used a music box to turn her into a Stepford wife." She took a deep breath, calming herself. "Can you imagine the postcards they might have on the machines killing everyone world?"

Sabrina lightly leaned against him. "My first boyfriend broke up with me after I told him that I'm a witch. In his defense, I did accidentally botch a spell that brought his brother back from the dead as a soulless automaton, but my heart was in the right place. I'm glad to have someone who understands, Roman, and you're right. As weird as it feels depending on near-strangers, I'm just glad that nobody's made me regret it yet." It would be interesting to see what they looked like as merfolk.

She playfully rolled her eyes. "Yeah, as we're going from place to place, the conductor just casts a lure that broadcasts things like 'was your childhood fucked up? do you have daddy or mommy issues?' and anyone who hears it feels compelled to join us."

Roman sighed. "I guess you had it better than me. I was never sure if my mother loved me, or was obsessed with having the perfect child. Also your magic is amazing, but your church sounds fucked up. Like really, really fucked up. I don't know how you dealt with it." He snorted. "Sure, I can just see Skynet making postcards. We're your doom, see you soon."

He chuckled. "With the people here, being a witch is a plus. It's almost insane that being human is a downside. Do we have any real humans? Other than Abigail, and she had a fucked up life. John and Derek had a really fucked up life, and Ariel who's a former mermaid. we're a motley crew of powers and backgrounds. It's nice."

Roman laughed. "That would be fun, but no, if they have files of all sorts f civilization, they must have files on people. I mean, can you find a normal person in the group? Even Abigail's background is not normal."

Sabrina lightly patted his arm. "I was loved by the two outcasts in my family. Zelda always gave me the impression that she'd toss the rest of us under the bus if it would please the Dark Lord. Oh man... I can still remember the shock when it came out that I, Sabrina Spellman, the half-breed, was the daughter of the beloved Dark Lord." She smirked. "All the postcards would have ruined landmarks in them, with a robot hidden somewhere."

She thought for a moment. "I think Tony is a real human, with a power suit. I'm not sure about Natasha, but I know both Steve and Bucky are genetically enhanced. Otherwise, I think everyone on the bus has certain skills or knows some stuff that other people don't, and it fills in the gaps. We have a great crew going, and yeah, I agree that it's nice. Overall I just really like that there doesn't seem to be a lot of judgment going on."

She giggled. "That makes way more sense than my idea, and you're right, I can't think of one person in our group who could be considered perfectly normal. Everybody has something in their past or about them that makes them different, even if it's not immediately visible."

"That would be your cousin and your other aunt, right?" Sabrina had mentioned them, but when talking about insanity, it was always Zelda. She must be a lot like Olivia. "My mother would have loved that surprise." And figured out a way to take advantage of it within ten minutes. "We can skip those postcards."

Roman nodded. "But even they have special skills. No one is normal. I don't know how the bus comes up with the people, but there has to be a way. I can't imagine that it's all random and we get this combination. But yeah when everyone is different, then there's no judgment like in Necrohelm."

He chuckled. "Come on, Ms Sabrina, the half-breed. Let's stop about fucking normal and let's go shopping."
