"Kyle, right? We've talked a couple times." John flashed the older man a smirk that he knew he'd inherited from his father after living with twenty-four year old Kyle for a year. It had even been Kyle who was with John when the bus picked him up. Not that John could explain why he looked like him. Except for the eyes, he didn't have his dad's blue eyes. "But, is it really so surprising? World ends, people have only their family to cling to, their children to protect. Saving humanity doesn't really have a point if there isn't a generation to come after, does it?"
He echoed Derek's nod with one of his own. "It's a double-edged sword. Have to move enough to stay alive, but have to stay still long enough to get anything done." It was pretty much the life he'd grown up with, after all, even if it hadn't been post-Judgement Day, as Derek thought. "Or, it just builds and launches more satellites. Send up something akin to the aerial HKs but built for space with a couple plasma rifles to turn the existing satellites to cosmic debris it can effectively sweep out of the way. It's not like Skynet's shown an interest in cleaning up any of the mess it's made," John pointed out.
Bingo. Looked like they'd found their target. Just had to figure out what they were up to, now. Clearly the ROTC mission had been about getting Derek and his team thrown into the death camp. But, how did the rest fit in? "It could be. We've seen them before. Our suspicion is that whoever is using that symbol is helping Skynet, trying to sabotage the Resistance. But, we don't know who's behind it. Following the trail is what brought us to Century, though. It might be worth checking around, see if any others have been spotted, if there might be some connected to other weird things you've noticed."
