Re: Steve/John
"Already on it," John murmured back, keeping his eyes focused on the task before him. Even if he hadn't seen firsthand before how much respect Derek earned from his men, it was easy to see here. Derek was the one holding people here together. "He's not going to trust us, but I think I can at least convince him the crazy plan will work. Be easier if I had a timeline and knew how much I had to push."
It'd be easier if he could tell Derek the truth, too. But, unless they'd started traveling through time already here, that was going to be a hard pill to swallow. Throw wizards and superheroes and all sorts of things straight out of movies that had been made while Derek was a kid pre-J-day and it was only something someone was going to believe when it happened to them.
Taking a moment to fake wiping his forehead, John risked a glance at Steve. "Everyone, everyone?" It was better than John might have hoped for, really. The Resistance members were their mission. But, John couldn't imagine leaving anyone here to suffer for it if they could help them. This wasn't his timeline, but these still felt like his people. "Why not use the portal from barracks to barracks?" he asked quietly. If they took them out at night, from one barracks to the next and through the final portal to...whereever Steve had planned...they might be able to avoid detection all together.
