Re: Ariel/Mac/Merrin
"All right," she said, amused by Mac's strong reaction to the dish. Even the vegan marshmallows didn't seem to make a difference in her opinion. "What about glazed carrots? You put sugar to glaze them," she said, clearly teasing at this point. "Do you know we didn't have potatoes in my country? Sweet potatoes for that matter. I like them, especially fried." Ariel shook her head. "Neither one of us does. I talk to fish. It's hard to eat something you can talk to. I don't understand cows, but I assume that it's just because I don't speak their language, so I generally stay away from any meat. I do eat eggs, cheese and milk, though. It's really really hard to find desserts that don't have some of that."
She nodded. "I have! My first movie was Speed. It's great. It's about a bus that can't stop. I thought that it was rather smart for the bus to show me that one." Not that she enjoyed spending hours in front of the screen. "I suppose that before, you sit less and do more things with others. You watch people put up plays and sing. It's fun."
Ariel snorted at Merrin's question. "Some would say to protect and provide for you. I'm told that things are slightly better in the future, but it's often men who tell me that, so I'm not sure that it's true. Men need wives to give them children and take care of their household. Wives need husbands to take care of them." She shook her head, because the discussion with James put things into perspective and for the first time she said aloud what her heart knew. "It's not rude to ask. I love Eric, but we're not meant for each other. He wants a wife that will give them children and rule with them. I want to travel the stars and not be encumbered by children. I want to take care of others and I want a man who can appreciate those things."
