James listened with his hands in the ground, feeling magic flow between his skin and earth below. Was there something deeper in what Remus was saying? Probably, if he knew his friend. Remus always had a lot left unsaid, if you knew how to hear it. James hoped he hadn't lost that ability over the last few months, that it was the crashing of the barrier which made it hard to latch on.
"Always so philosophical, our Moony," he teased gently, with a small smile that faltered as another hit rocked the barrier. "Reckon we can worry about the 'why' later on, though. As long as we can keep this thing standing tonight."
Wasn't that the way with wars? Especially ones you weren't exactly winning. Always fighting fires, jumping from one plan or fight to the next. A strange part of James had missed that over the last year. Parenting and hiding was a different kind of exhausting.
"You good?" He checked, lifting his dusty hands and glancing across at his friend. Another deep rumble filled the air, causing James to glance around, sweeping his hair from his forehead. "We should probably head over to whatever that is..."
