Re: Ariel/Cal
"You ca see a reason for what? Wanting to meet people in person?" Ariel would never stop being confused by these people. "Maybe that's why your politics is so... impersonal. Even as a princess, I walked around the town, got to know the people. I might not know everyone, but we try. Eric has sailed with a lot of the town's fishermen. It's much hard to rule through force and power when you know the people, you've seen them get married, have children, lose a loved one." Even with Percy there to remind her that she was a princess, she'd made sure to get to know the people, just like she knew them under the sea.
"A mermaid is a being that's part human and part fish. We have fins, can breathe under water and we can talk to the fish." She smiled at him. "That's a very good philosophy, I suppose, although I don't think that a few things can lead to the dark side. I have an entire castle and I've never hated people and I surely hope that I didn't move to the darkside." Whatever that was. "Also how do you eat if you own nothing? You need weapons to hunt, nets to fish, hoes to farm. If you don't have anything at all, how do you feed yourself?"
She thought about it and the she shook her head. "Nah, I don't think so. That leaves too much to chances, as if we have nothing to do with creating the situation. The path didn't present itself. I went to a sea witch, asked her to cast a spell on me, went to the human world, all to meet a boy I'd only seen once before. It wasn't some path; it was my doing." Ariel was well aware that her actions had caused a lot of harm, but they had been hers and hers alone.
"That sounds like a good compromise," sh said, grinning.
