Re: Steve/Yelena
He kept staring at Yelena, wondering what had happened to make the two sisters so different. Getting Natasha to smile was a great feat, while Yelena laughed so freely. "It's good to see you laugh. Natasha never did, although I don't know why Alexei is or why he'll be pissed, but as your new big brother, I can protect you even though you don't need the protection. It's in the handbook about big brothers. I learned with Bucky; he had four sisters."
He shook his head. "I don't believe it. I believe they change their actions, but not who they are at their core. Natasha was a good person who was taken and transformed and despite everything, she fought to save the world. Bucky was taken and brainwashed and he did all sorts of things. Clint wasn't in a good place when his family disappeared, but you know who could get through to him? Your sister."
Steve chuckled. "Yes, there is a difference." He grew serious, because she deserved a real answer. "Even at our worst, even when we hurt each other, when we were fighting for the future of people with powers, we never fought to kill. We always fought to stop, and maybe change the other person's mind."
His lips tightened at the admission. "Your employer is full of shit; I can tell you that much. I don't know who he is or why he wants Clint dead, but it had nothing to do with Natasha. She'd be the first one to go after your employer just for thinking it. So whatever you were told, it's a lie. I didn't have to be there to know."
