Steve/Yelena
No, it was not their way of life at all. Yelena could not imagine what it would be like to have a family and do what they do. So she told herself it was just as well that the ability to have children was taken from her. The Red Room were what they were doing with that one. It was brutally efficient.
"Do you like giving orders?"
He seemed to naturally gravitate towards it. He did it here. And from what she knew of the Avengers, he and Tony Stark were co-leaders of a sort. Although Iron Man seemed to often defer to Rogers, if only because Stark acted like he didn't care for the responsibility and would rather simply throw money at things. Until things came to a head over the Sokovia Accords. That was all public knowledge anyway. Who knew what the dynamics were actually like behind the scenes?
"Natasha? Taming?" Yelena arched an amused brow. "That doesn't sound like her." Missions within the missions, however, did. "Ah, well, compartmentalization can be a good idea on certain missions."
Yelena had been waiting for him to ask the next question, so when it came, she just smiled sadly. She focused on a point on the far wall over Steve's shoulder as they came together and stepped away in time with the music and steps of the dance. "I was gone, yes. When I came back, it was 5 years later and I had no idea where Natasha was. I figured if she wanted my help, she would have reached out to me. To the other Widows." Yelena bowed her head. "I didn't know at first that she had died."
