Re: Steve/Yelena
"She meant well," he said, without hiding the fondness in his voice. "Some of these people mean well as well. It's a different time, men and women have less of a chance to meet, and marriage is the ultimate goal for both. I guess what I'm saying is that it's a way of life, just not ours."
He laughed. "My reputation as a soldier has been greatly exaggerated. I was rejected so many times. I kept trying to enlist with a different name, until Abraham picked me for the Super Soldier program. After the serum, I was basically an actor, selling bonds and doing USO shows. I became a soldier, because the 107th had been captured. That's the unit of the guys from the neighborhood. I disobeyed orders, went behind enemy lies and saved them. After that, it was me and the Commandos, doing things without much supervision. With SHIELD, I once again disobeyed orders. I'm really not good at following orders. It only worked with the Commandos because I gave the orders."
He nodded. "The serum helps. I can see a situation, almost visually. It helps me with plans and tactics. I can think like a spy. I can think like a soldier. Then I end up going against the bully of the day and just wait for him to try to kill me, and then I can take him down. Natasha tried to tame me. We also went head to head when she had missions in the mission, always keeping secrets."
Steve knew the most important question. "Were you gone during the snap? And if not, why didn't you reach out to us? Natasha would have needed a sister."
