The news of drama hardly shocked Kitty. In fact, she expected it; the whole mutant community had a way of attracting drama, whether it be from looking different or someone wanting to take over the world. Even Scott avoiding her gaze didn’t really surprise her. He seemed to dislike the drama even more than she did. Still, something in his words made her uneasy; he didn’t seem to like any of the events that she missed. She decided that he probably wouldn’t give her the whole story and end up telling her the typical scaled-down, oversimplified version all about maneuvers and skills and applying training to real-world situations. She would have to get someone else to fill her in.
As Summers continued, her heart stopped. Bobby wasn’t living here anymore? Things had really gotten that bad? Who else had moved away? Kitty started to think very quickly, wondering if she had come back at the group’s worst time, if she, too, shouldn’t even bother trying to live here, if maybe she should put her degree to use and find a job somewhere – make a life for herself in the human world… maybe she was overreacting. Smiling, she thought out loud, “I guess I’ll pack up my room, like I should’ve done before I left, and move it into the staff floor. Go say hi to Xavier and everything, too.”
If Iceman had moved away, maybe he would be able to give her the reason, and the reason for all of the drama Scott was talking about. “Is Bobby living in New York? Maybe I’ll visit him.” Kitty removed a hand from her jeans and rubbed the back of her neck. “I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things.”
