Kingsley knew it was a mistake as soon as he stalked into the Daily Prophet offices, the latest issue clutched in one fist. Reporters on the floor took one look at him, and scattered. He supposed at this point, they were well used to taking cover whenever Kingsley happened to come by. It very rarely ended well for anyone. Yet, he just couldn't help himself, time and again, from confronting her here. He was long used to the fact that his common sense went right out the window about Rita Skeeter.
His feet moved in a familiar route to Rita's office, and he pretended not to notice the glint of silver as Sickles were exchanged. There was a similar pool at the Auror offices, whenever Rita came to confront him on his turf. That happened at least as often as it did this way around. If Kingsley were a big believer in destiny, he'd have to wonder if it was his fate to always fall into this pattern.
Her office door was closed, but that had never stopped him before. He opened it with a flick of his wand, and slammed it behind him. He stalked to her desk, slapped the prophet down on top, and stood there silently for a minute. When he was sure he could talk without shouting, he said, "What the bloody Hell do you think you're playing at, Rita?"
When he removed his hand, the headline stood out. MINISTRY AURORS CORRUPT?, it screamed. An inside source tells all, page 5. There was also a picture of Kingsley, standing with Aurors Proudfoot and Robards, the three of them covered in blood and other viscera. He'd love to know how she got her hand on the photograph. What made him most angry though, was how she'd used one of the hardest cases he'd ever been on in this way. Though he'd stopped being surprised by her a long time ago.
"Do you get off on crafting the most ridiculous, inaccurate headlines you can?"
