"He's come to you to get to me. He'll find another way," he said answering the unasked question. "It's better to contain than be surprised." Of course Severus would know this but at this point he was talking mostly to calm himself.
"Fuck. Bloody fucking hell, Severus, how did this happen?" He closed his eyes, because that sounded stupid to his own ears. He raised a hand. "I know how it happened. Nott, that's his doing. The mother was his sister, she'd been disinherited. Her husband, a Weasley suffered..." he cleared his throat, "an accident engineered by Nott. After a while, she disappeared, I never-" He'd never cared enough to inquire, because she'd been a way to deal with the stress and tension of his marriage. He hadn't loved or cared for her. Nott wanted her to be humiliated and Lucius wanted someone to hurt. It had worked out. Until now.
"You say he's staying with that Nott bastard. What happened to his mother?" he asked. Maybe he could talk to her and make sure that the child went to Beauxbatons. He'd pay for everything of course. It was worth staying alive and sparing Narcissa the humiliation.
