James felt a sinking feeling in his stomach when he saw Sirius. He only ever smiled like that when he was trying to pretend everything was okay, when it really meant everything was far from okay. He'd been pretty buys that day, but he hadn't missed everything that had gone on in the journals, plus there was the fact that Sirius had spoken to Regulus for the first time in years.
"I knew you could do it!" James said, placing his offerings on a nearby table, and rolling up his sleeves. "Need help with any of the rest of it? I've been told I'm pretty handy with plumbing charms." He had, in fact, saved their house from flooding last winter after a pipe froze. "Or if you need a break, I brought food, alcohol, and gifts from the sprogs."
