Edgar was truly the worst sort of person: an early riser who couldn't stay in an empty bed longer than necessary. He had been the same since a young child, unable to sit still for long and driving his parents insane during family functions. As a way of combating this, he would often run riot, burning off the energy and bumbling away incessantly to anyone who would listen. As an adult, such activities were now a touch more structured: he had various routes mapped in his head that challenged him enough and kept his attention on the matter at hand.
He made it to the top of Primrose Hill just as the sun came up, the sound of his Walkman pounding in his ears as he came to a breathless stop. There wasn't a soul about and it wasn't a sensation he was particularly fond of. Stillness led to his mind wandering to places he didn't quite fancy, and so he turned the volume up a notch and continued his run back towards his flat. As he neared the building, he came to a steady jog up the steps.
Already he could sense that his wards had been adjusted, which meant that Amelia or Marlene had dropped by. It seemed a touch early for either of them, but he shrugged it off, opening the door and relishing in the lingering scent of breakfast. Seeing Marlene's coat hanging up, a rueful smirk reached his lips.
"If you're here at this time, I'm guessing he was a bloody awful shag," he said as he shoved his trainers off and made his way into the kitchen. "But his inadequacies are my gain." He wrapped one sweaty arm over her shoulder, eyes scanning the place like a dog for whatever food she had whipped up.
