“You don’t think I’m a nice guy,” Han said leaning against the doorway of the command center.
“Whatever gave you that idea,” Leia said angrily.
Han walked toward her and folded his arms. “I can be nice, you know.”
“Now that I’d like to see,” Leia said.
“You will,” Han said with a grin. “And when you do, you owe me a kiss.”
“I don’t play games, Solo.”
“I think you do, Princess.”
“Stop calling me that.”
“Only when you start calling me Han,” he said, grin widening.
“You’re infuriating,” Leia sputtered and turned away from him. She took a moment to center and said in a low voice,”Fine, Han.”
“I’ll leave you to your planning then, Leia.”
Leia turned to reprimand him again, but he was gone. She sighed and thought, ‘At least it’s an improvement over Princess.’
Later that evening she retired to her quarters, numb with cold. Though the facility on Hoth provided a semblance of heating, you never did get the cold out of your skin. Even if your skin felt warm, the cold settled into your bones.
She typed in her passcode to her quarters and when the door hissed open, she drew her gun. There was a package on her bed. Taking a device from her pocket she scanned the contents. There was no sign of an incendiary device. Scanning the rest of the room, gun in hand she established that whoever left the package was not lurking. She quickly reprogrammed the passcode to her quarters and approached the box.
The plain wrapping was a bit wrinkled and she undid the ribbon that sealed the box. When she removed the top, setting it to the floor, she took out the palm-sized remote. Attached to its antennae was a note that said, “Use me. –from the man who likes to press your buttons”
Leia rolled her eyes, but experimentally pressed a button near the top. The lights dimmed and music started to play.
Another button called her service droid from the closet. In its arms was a warm meal, complete with choice of hot beverages.
She smiled and ate the meal, wondering how the fine meal was cooked. She had been living on basic rations with the other rebels.
Several other buttons prepared a warm bath replete with oils.
When she pressed the final button, she found her bed warmed and a message flashed on the small screen.
“When you think I’m a nice guy, maybe you won’t have to press my buttons to keep you warm in bed.”
Leia stifled a laugh. “Crude, but affective – I’ll give him that.” She curled beneath the blankets and set the device aside. “I may just give him a chance after all.”
