Sloan's heart was going about ninety to the dozen. Her palms were a little sweaty, and she had to take a lot of deep breaths to steady her hands and get her mind focused. She had barley eaten anything at dinner, and she was running on about three hours of sleep. And yet, she was sure she hadn't been this excited in her entire life. Well. At least not since she had tried out of the first time way back in her third year. Sure she had spent most of her first year on the team on reserves, but it didn't matter. She had worked hard, and here she was. Captain. She had earned this. No one had just given it to her. She had pretty big shoes to fill, Meyler before for the last two years, and Cedric before him. They had really given everyone a good run her fourth year. And Sloan was determined to do just as good and if not better.
She had a list of what she needed and an idea of what she was looking for. She needed two Beaters and a Chaser. And naturally, to uphold the ideals of fair play, she'd also be looking to see if they couldn't improve on the currently "filled" positions. Part of her didn't want to have to tell anyone that they've been replaced (which is why she reminded all of her returning players that they should still be giving their all tonight), but fair was fair, and she wouldn't be a very good Captain of the Hufflpuff team if she didn't keep an eye out for new talent.
As she lugged the heavy wooden create behind her, thinking that the physical labour would do her some good rather than risk a levitation charm at the moment, as she walked onto the pitch, her broom slung over one of her shoulders. As she set the crate down and unlocked the padlock she took a deep breath and tired to count to ten. But just like when she was angry and about to go balistic on someone, it wasn't working too well. She bounced on her feet a little bit to calm her nerves. She'd be fine once everything got going. Or at least that's what she had been banking on as she waited for other to arrive.
