Thirty minutes after Shibuya Yuri, Harajaku Furi, a baseball boy, the 27th Maou of Shin Makoku and all-around wimp rose to greet the morning, he knew he was doomed.
His doom came in the form of Murata Ken, his friend and the reincarnation of his country's Great Sage. More specifically, it came in the form of a small, shiny, white plastic book his friend had tucked under his arm.
"Murata," Yuri hissed, trying not to draw attention as he stepped out into the courtyard, eyes squinting in the sudden brightness. "What are you carrying?" he asked, fervently praying it wasn't what he thought it was.
Murata grinned a (in Yuri's opinion) gleefully unholy grin as he pushed his glasses upwards with a finger. "It's a photo album. Your mother's photo album."
"And why did you bring it here?"
Murata gave him his best innocent look. "Your mother gave it to me of course."
"Murata," the teenager complained, "you didn't answer my question."
The reincarnated sage shrugged. "I simply told your mother how much von Bielfeld wanted to paint your portrait and how often he's been unsuccessful. Your mother gave me the photo album, exclaiming how 'My Yu-chan is too fidgety to sit still for a portrait' and how you were much cuter as a child in all those dresses, anyway", he answered, the latter portion pitched in a high falsetto that made Yuri wince.
Yuri took the album from his friend. "Here, let me go hide this before Wolfram sees it or -"
"Before Wolfram sees what? Yuri!" The black-haired teenager sweated as he heard the one voice he didn't want to hear right now come from behind.
Yuri laughed weakly as he whirled around to face his fiancé, one hand rubbing the back of his hand as the other hid the album behind him. "Well, it's just uhhh...you tell him, Mur - Ah!" Yuri exclaimed, for his best friend had made a speedy getaway, already across the courtyard and showing no signs of stopping (he was also wearing, Yuri was sure, a sadistic smile on his face).
"You wimp!" Wolfram's green eyes were spitting fire now. "It's probably proof of your infidelity, cheater!"
"Infidelity!" Yuri screeched, waving his arms (and unthinkingly bringing the album into view). "What infidelity? These are just pictures of me as a - " his sentence screeched to a halt as Yuri realized what he was about to reveal.
Fire began forming in the palm of Wolfram's hand. "Pictures of you…as a what?" He took a menacing step forward.
Thirty-five minutes after Shibuya Yuri, Harajaku Furi, a baseball boy, the 27th Maou of Shin Makoku and all-around wimp rose to greet the morning, he was running away from his irate fiancé in a desperate search for the nearest source of water to transport him away.
