"I could have," Cappie agreed. "But then I would have robbed you of the chance to stand up for yourself and aren't you feeling empowered right now?" He smiled at her, the friendly little creases appearing at the corners of his eyes. He stuck his hands into his jeans pockets.
"Look, I wasn't planning to murder you, I promise," he told her, as jovially as possible. "I was just enjoying being behind you so much that I forgot where I was supposed to be going." He shrugged. It was an easy mistake to make.
"I was going to get a coffee," he explained, indicating over his shoulder, back towards the main street. "Perhaps, if I promise to stay in front of you at all times, I could buy you one too, as an apology for freaking you out?"
