He stopped in the doorway, eyes full of so much love and concern watching her. Her husband's death had hurt her so very badly and that, in turn, had hurt Elijah. But he couldn't heal that hurt. In fact he was at a loss for anything that he could do to help her, unsure that his presence would be welcomed. It had been a point of contention between Hayley and Jackson, he knew, her continuing love for the Original living only just across the street. Should he really be stepping in now while she was mourning? Would it be viewed as infringing on Jackson's still-warm corpse?
In the end any reservations were brushed aside, Elijah stepping forward quietly. "...Hayley..." He couldn't leave her there. Though he may still have qualms about stepping in, his worry for her overruled them.
