Cambions
On Cambions
The word cambion refers to an individual who has a large amount of demonic (also called fell) ancestry in their bloodline. While such individuals are commonly referred to as ‘half-demons’, the vast majority of cambions possess far less demonic ancestry than half, with the typical being either approximately 1/4th (or equivalent to a demonic grandparent) or 1/8th (a demonic great-grandparent). A lower degree of demonic ancestry than that usually results in the loss of most cambion abilities, leaving the individual nothing more than a slightly above average human.
Abilities of Cambions
All cambions possess a far greater lifespan and significantly improved regenerative capabilities than ordinary humans. Most cambions can expect a lifespan of about three times that of an ordinary human. Cambions heal from injuries far more rapidly than regular humans, but typically not quite as quickly as a vampire or a werewolf.
Cambions are often, though not always, stronger, faster, and more agile than humans. Their exact degree of supernatural strength, speed and other physical attributes depends on their ancestry. They also typically possess excellent night-vision. Many cambions possess an alternate form with more demonic features that often manifests during use of their powers, although only cambions with shapeshifting in their demonic blood can disguise this fact. Some cambions posses only their demonic form while some posses only a human form.
Most cambions also possess other supernatural abilities which relate to their particular demonic heritage.
Weaknesses of Cambions
All cambions have a particular weakness related to their demonic ancestry. These weaknesses may being physical weaknesses and simply limitations to their behavior or courses of action. Like all creatures with demonic ancestry, cambions are vulnerable to silver and are poisoned if wounded with silver weapons.
While cambions are quite tough and regenerate quite readily from injuries, they are not immortal like vampires, or quite as tough as werewolves as a rule. However, cambions are far more variable in their abilities than vampires or werewolves.
While not an organic weakness, cambions are more likely to attract the attention of demons, for better or worse, than ordinary mortals are.
History of Cambions
As Cambions are such a diverse folk, it is almost impossible to give a coherent history of their ‘race’. At the very most, individual cambion bloodlines will share an illustrious or notorious history.
Life as a Cambion
The average cambion lives anywhere from 280-300 years. A newborn Cambion child will age at more or less the same rate as a human until late childhood (typically around age of nine or ten.) The pre-pubescent phase of cambion life extends until the midteens and is followed by an extended adolescent phase that lasts until the mid to late twenties. Cambions typically age at 1/5th the rate of humans until they reach age 150 (when most cambions appear to be in their early 40s.) Aging then slows to approximately 1/3 the rate of a human. Most cambions experience a drastic change in fertility after this time, with some variation depending on heritage.
