This is a scene from a much larger fic in the works.
Sara stood at the window, staring off across the apartment complex to the street below, watching the cars drive by and the people walking on the sidewalks, moving about their business, caught up in their own lives. She tried not to think about the six lives that had been snuffed out at the hands of the sociopath now in custody, tried not to think about how she had felt such compassion for him when she'd thought he was the victim.
A pair of arms slid around her waist and she sighed and leaned back, releasing a soft groan as light kisses were peppered along the curve of her neck. "Have I ever told you I love it when you do that?"
"A time or two," Gil said, resting his chin on her shoulder. "You going to be okay?"
"Eventually," she said with a sigh as she turned around in his arms and wrapped her own around his neck. She rested her head against his shoulder. "I just feel so… I'm not sure what I feel. Stupid, maybe."
"You're not stupid, Sara. You didn't know and you were only trying to comfort someone you thought was a victim. It was a mistake, yes, but it was one any of us could have made. Don't beat yourself up over it. Learn from it and let it go. And just so you know, we all still love you, just like you'd love us if we made a mistake."
Sara chuckled and raised her head. "All of you? Are you trying to tell me you've got more than one personality running around in that head of yours?"
Gil smirked and gave her a light tap on her bottom. "I was talking about the team. Nick's worried about you. He called while you were in the shower. He wanted to make sure you were okay and that you're feeding properly."
Sara rolled her eyes. "He's such a doting father."
"He's concerned, but I told him you'd be just fine. You just needed some rest and to wrap your mind around it. He told me to tell you not to be so hard on yourself."
"You know what I'd like to do?"
"What?" Gil asked as he buried his face in her neck and inhaled deeply, the scent of her skin calming and relaxing him.
"Curl up on the sofa with some takeout Chinese and watch that movie Greg let us borrow."
Gil pulled back and smiled. "Sounds good to me," he said, and then he brushed his lips across hers, his touch light as a feather, before letting her go and reaching for the phone.
