Ezra turned his head, which was resting against the back of the sofa, and looked at Greg. "So tell me, how long have you had a thing for our dear Nicholas?"
Greg smiled. He didn't have to think about it. "Since the first time I laid eyes on him. It was my first day at the lab, and I was scared half to death. I was a little overwhelmed, and my hands were shaking slightly, when in came this really hot guy. He smiled at me and then talked to me in that sexy Texas accent. Put me right at ease, and I was smitten."
"And it's taken you two this long to come together?" Ezra asked with a laugh as he eyed Nick, who was talking with Martin and Jack on the other side of the room.
Greg shrugged. "Hey, not my doing. He's the one who took his sweet time making a move. I've been dropping hints since the second day. Not my fault he pretends he's slow about some things."
Ezra smiled. "It is a most discouraging fact of our existence that we must conceal our true selves. My first meeting with Chris and the others in Four Corners was not what I would have chosen. The first time Chris, Vin, and Buck saw me, I was feigning drunken behavior in order to part a fool from his money. I was also playing the part of the quintessential Southern gentleman, and thus had certain prejudices I had to maintain, at least for a time. It wasn't the way I truly felt, but it was what was necessary. I was fortunate that the others did not turn away once they found out what I was."
"Does that happen often?"
"Unfortunately it does, quite often. Of course, most humans do not find it easy to believe those who try to warn them of our existence. Most people on this world are content to ignore the proof of other life in the universe, and as such tend to ridicule those who speak out against us."
"Yeah, I can imagine the panic if they did believe it," Greg said with a chuckle.
Ezra grinned. "I remember the mass panic when Orson Welles did War of the Worlds on his radio show. It wasn't as widespread as the urban legends have made it, but there was panic and it showed us just how unprepared humans were for us to reveal ourselves."
"That sucks," Greg said, looking around the room. Most of the people in the room were Saurnausis, and in the week they'd spent together, Greg didn't feel uncomfortable around any of them…well, a little around Ezra, but that was for another reason entirely. "I'm glad Nick told us though. All in all, the reactions weren't bad, I don't think."
"From what Nick told me, everyone took it very well. Especially you," Ezra said, grinning when a blush crept up Greg's neck and cheeks. "He said you have a particular fascination with his wings."
Greg felt his face heat even more. Ducking his head, he nodded. "Yeah, I guess I do. I couldn't help but touch them the first time he changed, showed us what he really looked like. They were so gorgeous and they looked so soft. I just wish he'd transform more often." Greg looked over at Nick for a moment. He smiled as Nick laughed at something Jack was telling him and turned back to Ezra. "I think he's still afraid I might freak out a little."
"Well, I for one think you would be just fine seeing him like that all the time," Ezra said, reaching over and running one hand halfway up Greg's thigh. He squeezed it and caressed Greg's inner thigh for a moment before letting go, grinning as Greg shifted, his discomfort at being turned on by someone other than Nick obvious. "I need to refill my drink. Would you like another?" he asked, raising Greg's empty glass.
"Sure." Greg's voice came out in a half-squeak, and he cleared his throat. "Thank you."
Ezra's smile grew wider. "My pleasure."
Greg groaned and slouched down on the sofa. He was going to have to kick Nick's sorry ass for introducing him to Ezra Standish.
