Re: Enter the Damon
Sitting in his lap, Jamie relaxed into his body. She missed being this close to him. Hell, she missed being this close to anyone. It was nice and she felt safe... protected. Her eyes fluttered shut when Damon told her wasn't unhappy with her and pressed a kiss to the side of her head. That helped a little to calm her unease. Biting back a smile when he told she was gorgeous, she was relieved. It hadn't been her.
Jamie's eyes opened as he began telling her the story of him and Enzo. She listened closely and frowned, not for her own sadness but for the hurt the two of them had seen in their lives. If anyone knew that clinging to one person in the eye of such despair, it was her. Though, of course, she hadn't been quite abused as badly as Damon and Enzo.
Reaching up with her hand, she cupped Damon's face and shook her head with a sad smile. "No, Damon. You're wrong. I do get it. All my life, I have felt alone. My mother didn't care about her kids, my older brother hates me because I drove away my father by not being a boy. My father resented me. No one loved me. I was in my own hell. At thirteen, my brother's roommate from college, who was twenty, showed me attention, made me feel good, and then convinced me to have sex with him."
Sighing, she looked away. Jamie still regretted the decision to sleep with her brother's friend. She was thirteen and had no business having sex, had no business learning at that age to use sex as a crutch to fill the void she had in her heart because her family hated her. "After that happened... I clung to my best friend and her family. They all but took me in and showed me what family was really all about. Can't say I learned to love myself enough to not use sex as a crutch, but it helped fill the void somewhat."
Turning her head back to look at him, she smiled with a little tear trickling down her cheek. Sure, she was sad but at the same time, she was completely happy that Damon found someone to love and fill his void. Someday she hoped to be so lucky. "I get it and I'm incredibly happy for you. We should all be so lucky to have someone to love and love us back."
Jamie leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. She started to move to stand up and work on her books some more. If she kept moving, she wouldn't think about her heartache from her lost childhood. Maybe, if she cleaned the entire house top to bottom, she'd fall asleep so exhausted that she wouldn't dream about a family that actually loved her and wanted her.
