Nate watched him closely, those tears hurting him almost as much as being lied to. He hated seeing Lucien so upset but then he was upset too. He just didn't show it quite as obviously. Nate wasn't perfect and the only one he wanted was Lucien, they each had flaws but they loved each other despite them.
It was something but Nate realised Lucien still didn't get why Nate was upset. Yes the drinking was bad but the lying was worse. "It wasn't your decision to drink that made us unhappy Lucien, it was your decision to lie to me about it. Do you really think it's true happiness if one of us is being lied to?" That was what Nate was trying to say, Lucien could slip up, he wasn't infallible, nobody was but Nate needed to know so he could help.
Nate's heart almost broke right then when Lucien looked at him and those words send tendrils of fear down his spine. Moving forward he wrapped his arms around his fiance, "Don't say that, you know I hate thinking of anything bad happening to you" he said, arms almost like a vice around Lucien he was holding him so tightly. "We still need to talk, I'm still upset with you but I need to hold you too" Because he did. He couldn't stand there when Lucien looked so sad. Alcohol may be Lucien's weakness but an upset Lucien was Nate's.
