"No I would not." He said. He could understand the boy, even if he didn't think so. Derek had been taught that slaves were still people, but this was common a way to break new slaves, put them in a closed in place. His Uncle had done that once to a poor girl and she had had nightmares for weeks afterwards, but at least this was bigger than that closet.
"I did not say you were dumb." He said, leaning against the door. "But would you rather see the people out there looking at you, talking about about what they want to do to you? The looks on their faces? I am pretty sure you would rather be oblivious. Besides, I was not the one that designed this place."
