"Come now, love. Do you really think so poorly of me that I'd hurt you?" Klaus asked, knowing full well what the answer to that question would be. She was right not to trust him, but there was also some truth to what he said. Overtly harming Elena would isolate Caroline, and he wasn't about to let that happen. Besides, the brunette's petulance was entertaining when he was in a fair enough mood.
Klaus moved to stand in front of her, kneeling down so that he was on level with the girl. He reached out, attempting to cup her chin in his hand and expecting to be slapped away.
"I'm here to assure you that I'll take care of her for you. I'd also thought I might see about finding you someone who might be half decent to you," the vampire continued with a sigh. "But alas, you chose to say such hurtful things."
