Auction Room: River Tam
When the workers had come for her, River had been waiting. They'd seemed surprised by how docile the girl was in light of how violently upset she'd been earlier in the day when they'd been tasked with combing her hair. What they found when they entered the room was the girl sitting, boots on her feet as she looked up at them and stood. She'd asked them if they were going for a walk and followed without a sigh of protest.
Now that she was being ushered up onto the stage, however, it was growing harder and harder to drown out the voices. Vampires were dead processes, and she couldn't hear them as easily, but the rest of them... They were shouting like they didn't know how loud they were, but the path was laid out before now. All she had to do was follow it. So, River moved slowly and with a careful grace almost as though she was picking her way along a wire before she came to stand before the crowd, looking across the sea of faces for someone specific. Ripper. The one who tore.
"Lot 4089. Human female. 18 years of age." The words didn't even appear to reach River's ears as she waited, everything drowned out in the sea of nothing. "She's a little, uh, touched in the head, but she's healthy and incredibly smart. Was studying advanced physics at fourteen years of age. Talented dancer. Virgin. Bidding starts at $5000." As soon as the man finished speaking, River extended her hand slowly, just as she had in the Viewing Rooms with her palm up.
