He had to raise an eyebrow at the finger poking him in the chest. Were this girl anyone else, she might well have lost it. Even now, his temper flared slightly, something he was only able to reign in because he did not wish for her to see him that way.
"Because for whatever reason Elijah and I might fight, he is an honorable man. His word is everything to him, and he binds himself to it tighter than restraints on a rabid dog," Klaus informed her, starting to sound slightly aggravated. The accusation about his falsehoods was enough to push it straight from slightly to entirely infuriated. He did not move from his spot, and the anger and darkness in his eyes was peppered with hurt.
"I have never claimed to be an honest man all the time, Caroline. I am selfish, and I am damaged, just as every bloody person in the damn pit of a world is," he hissed. "But I have never lied about my feelings for you, not once. I am not overly fond of Elena, but I have seen to her safety because I know that it would kill you to lose her. She called me by my name, a name she had no right to use. I have slain men for less, and yet she still stands. Because of you. So do not presume to tell me that I lie about everything because I do not lie about my love, and I do not spit the word to passing girls who catch my fancy."
