Who: Michael and Malia Where: His lab, Jannati When: Week 2. Wednesday. Evening. Rating: SFW, PG at best. Status: Closed, in-progres
It had been a little busier than normal in the store that day and the two girls had found them more pressed than the week before. Malia blamed the weather but Bella had pointed out that there was big thing coming up. Either way, it had left Bella pressed to get dinner cooked on what she considered time but she'd managed with Malia covering downstairs until closing before heading up there to help. Which consisted mostly of washing dishes and staying out of the smaller girl's way as she cooked up a storm.
The idea had been straight forward and simple enough when it had happened. Just take the tray down stair and put it on the table inside the lab. That was it; that was all she had to do. She'd even been the one to suggest it so that Bella could instead go relax and unwind after dinner. "Open the door and put the tray on the table to the left of it. Then let Mr. Meru know it's there" had been what Bella told her after she'd finally gotten the other to agree to go sit down.
Of course it had all seemed so much simpler than before it had started...The rumbling, wheezing, gnashing sound that had erupted from the other side of the closed door as she stood in front of it with a hand hovering just over the knob. What kind of horrible bizarre experimental monster was he growing in there? It sounded like something out of a nightmare she'd had. All fire and metal and tearing and screaming. It made Malia shudder with a cold dread that she only felt with that particular dream and this sound which she'd heard upstairs a few times over the last week and a half but never this loudly before.
Whatever it was, it sounded hungry. Hopefully it hadn't actually eaten Meru yet, if he was still alive in there with it. She couldn't imagine it being a very nice way to go.
Malia steeled her nerve, mostly, and swallowed once before she gripped the door knob and pushed the lab door open with a jerk that made everything on the tray shift and clatter a bit but she didn't stop as she barely stepped into the room to drop the dinner tray on the table where Bella had said it would be and was closing the door again with a quick comment of "Food."
Mission accomplished.
Or so she thought as she nodded her head in satisfaction and turned to head back upstairs only to hit the steak knife with her foot and cause it to make a noise which drew her attention down to it. Damn..And the beast in there sounded angrier than before but the knife was a weapon as much as he'd need it to cut into the steak on the tray.
This had been the well-intended reasoning behind the sudden thunk and wobble of the knife embedding itself into the wall not too far from Michael's head and the door slammed shut again as Malia picked up the stool behind the store counter and slowly crept back towards the stairs to head upstairs though she never took her eye from the lab door as she told herself repeatedly not to panic because she was scarier. As if that would somehow keep the huge sounding creature at bay for long.
